A NEW base for the Drogheda Alzheimer Centre has been finally confirmed for a site at Greenhills.
The 0.82 acre location will be offered on a 35-year lease by the borough council at a rate of €1,000 per annum.
The confirmation has been welcomed by Cllr. Paul Bell who has been pushing for agreement on the new centre in recent years. It will be down for approval at the next Drogheda Borough Council meeting.
'I am both relieved and delighted that the local Drogheda Branch of the Alzheimers Society of Ireland has finally got access to the site, having encountered technical difficulties when the council initially approved a site for them in December 2010. The site will allow for a purpose built facility to be constructed for day care services and has ample space for the future expansion of services,' said Bell.
Bell also paid tribute to the local Alzheimer group for their service to the community and dedication to the service users and their families.
'It is only right that that we as elected members of Drogheda Borough Council in some way reciprocate in offering our support and resources to this voluntary group. I have from the start of this process committed my ongoing support to this organisation and I know that the need for their services will grow into the future. I hope that construction on the site will commence in the coming months'.
