THE STORY of Irish boxing's first women's world champion will be aired on Setanta Ireland on St Patrick's night at 9 p.m.
The one-hour documentary charts the life of Deirdre Gogarty from Mornington, a former Drogheda Grammar School student, who started her career by sparring with the lads in Drogheda ABC on Dyer Street.
She finally left Ireland to chase her dream in the USA where she met Beau Williford and based herself in La Fayette, Louisiana. Ultimately she went on to win the world title.
Her story is called 'Girl on the Undercard' and filming began last year in the States by Loosehorse Productions.
Filmmaker Kim Bartley and sound-man Colm O'Meara also visited Drogheda as part of the production.
Her story is also the subject of a proposed new film.
