Concerns have been expressed over the rise in the number of patients on trolleys in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, doubling in the past year, according to July figures.
The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation who monitor the figures, said that numbers in Drogheda doubled between July of last year and this year.
'Most patients now in emergency departments will be in a bed or at home within nine hours.
'I am monitoring the trolley count on a daily basis and in some hospitals it is a real problem,' Minister Varadkar stated.
