Christmas shopping is in the bag thanks to Local Heroes
THIS WEEKEND will see the second year of the revived Christmas Bonanza Festival in Drogheda, and to make shopping extra special for everyone, the Local Heroes team has fulfilled another one of their objectives.
The gorgeous 'Drogheda on the Boyne' bag for life shopping bag went on sale last weekend, and what better way to show your support for local businesses than shopping in town, and sharing the message?
'With Bonanza coming up at the end of this week, it would be great to see people out and about with their 'Drogheda on the Boyne' shopping bags,' says Local Hero Karen Devine.
'Launched last week, watch out for them in local retailers across the town.'
Priced at €2.00 each, the bags are durable fabric bags, ideal for all types of gift and everyday shopping. They fold up neatly and clip together so they are ideal for keeping in your handbag or in the car.
Miriam McCabe from AIB put the idea forward last year at the RTÉ Drogheda Local Heroes Ideas Summit. From there the retailers of the town put the wheels in motion and started the process of sourcing and purchasing the bags.
' There has been a great reaction to the bags,' said Kevin McAllister of McAllister Electrical in West Street. 'It's been great to see people walking down the street showing off their bags filled with groceries and gifts.'
Drogheda on the Boyne shopping bags come individually wrapped and can be popped in the post to friends and family abroad.
Gwen Fearon of Stockwell Artisan Foods said she is encouraging local people to send these bags to friends and family abroad.
'We want to see how far the bags will travel,' she said with a smile.
'Photos of Drogheda on the Boyne Shopping Bags in near and far flung places can be posted on the RTÉ Local Heroes Drogheda Facebook page or sent to the Drogheda Independent.'
