Castle doors still shut

THE chairman of the Ardee Historical Society has asked that the appropriate minister be invited to get involved in the bid to get Ardee Castle opened – once and for all.
It follows a 'closed weekend' at the castle, despite plans to use it by the community for the Ardee Bonanza Festival.
'This was a weekend to show off the castle to the population and those who were coming in for the bonanza. There was music on the streets, special offers in the shops, a launch on Friday night, but the doors of the castle firmly closed,' John Rafferty stated.
He himself had met visitors from Australia who wanted to see around the castle before they headed for home, but he said it wasn't possible.
'How embarrassing it is to tell visitors the most significant townhouse castle in this part of Ireland is closed. We should be ashamed,' he added.
