Serious injury was narrowly avoided following two separate incidents on the M1 last week, including one in which a truck veered across the southbound lane and crash through the central median strip.

The incident happened last Thursday evening on the M1 between J10 Drogheda North and J11 Monasterboice shortly after 7pm when a blowout on the front driver sidy tyre of the truck, which was travelling southbound, caused it to veer acorss the inside lane, colliding with another vehicle.

It then continued to veer right, crashing through the central median in the northbound carriageway.

The driver and passenger of the car were brought to hospital as a precaution. The M1 remained closed for a number of hours while emergency services cleared the scene. On Monday, Drogheda Fire Brigade were in attendance after an Audi jeep caught fire while travelling north along the M1.The car managed to pull over to the hard shoulder after the fire broke out at around 3.30pm.
