A dog walker stumbled across asbestos dumped in the ditches on both sides of the Old Slane Road last Wednesday afternoon.

A DOG walker got more than he bargained for last week when he stumbled across a large amount of asbestos dumped by the edge of the road near a local beauty spot.

The man who doesn't want to be identified was taking his usual route on the Old Slane Road on Wednesday afternoon when he made the potentially dangerous discovery.

'I was just walking along beside the the ditch at the bottom of the Old Slane Road when I noticed a large amount of stuff dumped by the side of the road,' he told the Drogheda Independent.

'When I looked closer, I recognised it contained asbestos, as I used to work with an asbestos removal company years ago, so I know how dangerous it can be.'

To make matters worse, there was another sizeable amount dumped on the opposite side of the road.

'It's hard to believe someone would do this and I'd say they must have known what it was before they did it,' he added.

'I rushed home to contact Meath County Council, so they could come and remove it safely.'
