The Sand Pebbles

HAS anybody more detail on an Ardee group called the Sand Pebbles. They were made up of Nicholas Callan, Dickie McCormack and Paul Callan who had been big on the cabaret scene in New Zealand and Australia. They perfomed in the 70s and were pretty well regarded.

DATES for the diary: The dates for the Blessing of the Graves in the locality have been announced. May 25th: Stickillen, June 22nd: Ballapousta, June 29th; Kildemock, July 20th: Mapestown, August 3rd; Shanlis, August 24th: Smarmore, September 7th: Collon and Old St Mary's.

WHO in Ardee can tell me about a great forerunner of clubs like Ardee Hibs, Square United and Ardee Celtic, called Ardee Town FC. I know guys like John O'Brien, Ken McKeever, Austin Dowdall, Mal McGee, Larry O'Brien and Tom Higgins played with them.


O'CONNELL'S GFC in Castlebellingham will be the place to be this Friday, February 28th, for the club juvenile registration and presentation evening. It runs from 5-7pm and starts with the registration, €10 per child, before Tyrone star Owen Mulligan takes to the stage to hand out the various awards. He will also be signing copies of his new book, 'Mugsy – My Story.'


WARREN the barber did a great job on Mark 'Bogger' Conlon last week. Bogger got a new hair do for Shave or Dye and is hoping to raise plenty of cash for cancer research. You'll catch the new look behind the bar in Butterly's.


I WISH everyone associated with the new shop 'Kelly's Korner' all the very best. Good to see businesses opening up in Ardee.


The Mid-Louth Traders Association have launched the 2014 Business and Community Directory. The free entry publication would be distributed to over 2,000 houses. A contribution of €20 will be requested to cover printing costs. Advertisement forms can be requested from or by phoning 041 6851000.


The Lannleire Juvenile AGM will be held on Thursday February 27th at 8pm in Lannleire Pavilion, new faces welcome and needed.


AN Easter Camp 2014 will run from Monday, April 14th to Friday 18th from 9.30am to 2pm. In the Lannleire Pavilion, Shamrock Hill, Dunleer.
