WELL-KNOWN Wexford photographer Maurice Cloake has died suddenly at the age of 55.

Drogheda-born Maurice, from Shelmalier Commons, Barntown, passed away at Wexford General Hospital.

He leaves behind wife Mags (née Jordan), a former teacher who works as a primary schools inspector.

The couple were married 25 years ago, and the priest who married them, Fr Hugh O'Byrne from Blackwater, was among the priests officiating at the funeral.

Friends and colleagues described Maurice as a very gentle man, easy to get on with and very knowledgable.

'He was easy to get on with, an tolerant, open-minded fellow,' said one.

Maurice was born in Drogheda and lived near Castlebridge in Wexford for many years before moving to Barntown several years ago.

He became a professional photographer more than a decade ago after working at the Whitford House Hotel and the Wren's Nest. A former member of Wexford Camera Club, Maurice was described as a great friend to the club, a great tutor and teacher.

Maurice is sadly missed by his loving wife, sisters Teresa, Rose and Irene, brothers Aidan, Richie and Ibar, mother-in-law Cassie, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephew relatives and friends.
