GOAL's Carmel Drumgoole along with Ardee and District Athletic Club have organised a GOAL Mile in Ardee to be held at the Fairgreen from 11 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. on St. Stephen's Day (December 26).
The GOAL Mile is held in villages, towns and cities all over Ireland during each Christmas holiday. The concept is simple: people run or walk a mile and donate whatever they can afford to GOAL. Millions of euro has been raised to support GOAL's work in the developing world since the first mile was held in 1982.
Darren Clarke, the St. Mary's, Ardee and, Louth Senior Football player, popped along to the Fair Green recently to launch the event.
Carmel Drumgoole, who has been working at GOAL's head office in Dun Laoghaire for eight years, said: 'We are delighted that Darren is available to lend his support to the Ardee GOAL Mile. Events like the GOAL Mile are very important to the organisation for raising awareness of our work overseas, and for raising funds to support aid programmes across the 14 developing world countries where we work. I would encourage everyone in Louth to take part in a GOAL Mile this year, and donate whatever they can towards GOAL's work. Every cent makes a difference.'
Other Louth GOAL Miles will be held at the Bush Athletic Track (Home of Glenmore AC), at St Feichins GAA Grounds, Beaulieu, Termonfeckin, and at Dunleer Athletic Club, Shamrock Hill, with all events taking place from 11 a.m. to midday on December 25.
