Information on the Mermaid of Termonfeckin

WE got a request in last week from Nick Tony about the Mermaid of Termonfeckin.

While doing a bit of research he found an item on http://irelandoldnews.com ( submitted by CML) – reprinted from the Drogheda Journal and which appeared in The Connaught Journal on Monday, 30th August 1824.

'A very well ascertained Mermaid appeared on the coast, quite close to the shore, at TermonFechin on Wednesday last, and was most distinctly seen by George Hoey, the parish clerk, by Owen Maguire of Meaghstown, and by Mr. Taffe, a farmer, of the parish of Termon- Fechin. It remained close to them for upwards of a quarter of an hour, and then swam out to sea' - Drogheda Journal.

Nick is now intrigued and would love to know more about the story.
