Huge crowd turns up for annual raffle in Market Bar
KARAOKE ANGELS, sizzling Santas and jolly jumpers!
It could only be the annual Christmas Raffle at the Market Bar, Magdalene Street, which drew one the biggest crowds ever in its 28 years.
'We all had super fun, and everyone was in great humour, dressing up and really enjoying the night,' says Collette Nugent, a well-known face in the bar.
'It was part of the usual 'Monday Club Craic' which has been running since about 1995, with many of the regulars really going for it in flashing jumpers, Santa hats and elf costumes.'
And rightly so when the honour of being awarded' the Best Christmas Jumper' was at stake. 'I'm afraid we had to abandon some of the awards as the standard was just too high,' she says with a smile. But everyone really supported the raffle, with some great prizes on offer.'
The 1st Prize was €500, 2nd Prize €250, 3rd Prize Big Hamper, 4th Prize Mini Hamper, 5th Prize Mini Hamper and there were extra Spot Prizes on the night.
'We had lots of music and singing, and one of the oldest bar men in Drogheda Henry Gallagher was enjoying himself until the wee small hours,' says Collette. 'I want to thank everyone who made such a huge effort to dress up, and wish everyone a very happy Christmas from all at the Market Bar.'
