Girl Guides stalwart Elizabeth to lead parade in Ardee

One of the stalwarts of the Ardee Girl Guides is to lead the parade in the town.

Elizabeth Byrne has been part and parcel of the organisation since its foundation and her elevation to Grand Marshall is a richly deserved accolade.

The organisers of the event honour groups from year to year and this time it's the turn of the guides.

The parade will again start at 3pm on the northside of the town on the Dundalk Road.

A host of entries have already come in and those wanting to take part can come along on the day.

The reviewing stand will be again situated close to Ardee Castle.

The organisers are hoping the council will be on site this week to remove the barriers around the castle.

Up to four bands have been confirmed for the day and a few more may also appear.

Again, it is hoped that a number of schools will take part this year and add to the youth element of the day.

'It would be great to see the schools involved,' a spokesperson added.
