IT'S time to end the nightmare for motorists and pedestrians on the Rathmullen Road – immediately.

The stretch of road badly needs a pedestrian crossing for the large volume of people using it, and 2014 should see work begin.

That's the view of a local councillor who admits he is fed up of excuses.

Paul Bell, speaking at the recent annual budget meeting, again appealed for funds to be set aside for improvement works on the road.

'We need to spend money on the pedestrians and school children that use this road to make it safer for them,' he stated.

He said he could see the thousands of euro to be spent on roads/transport., but those were just figures. He wanted the much needed project included.

'When I was the mayor it was agreed to put in low cost calming measures on this road and that has not been delivered on,' he added.

Town Engineer Pat Finn confirmed that the junction (Marley's Lane/Rathmullen Road) has been discussed and the issue was availability of funding.

'We have applied for measures and we'll see how it goes,' he remarked. 'We will prioritise as we see it and maximise the funding.'

Cllr Bell responded by saying that the answers were similiar to last year.
