Dunleer cycle hits €81,000 for IMND

Hubert Murphy

The figure says it all - €81,476.28!

The 2017 D2K event broke all records as the hardy group of local cyclists did their bit to fundraise for Motor Neurone and Paul's Fight 4 Life and last Friday night, in Shearman's pub in Dunleer, the sum was handed over.

This year's cycle took place in June and involved a cycle from Dunleer to Ballinasloe and it once again brought out the crowds and the immense generosity of the local community.

The distance was 198km and the cyclists even got a party of local Galway cyclists to bring them into the town.

Local man Paul Lannon has been a driving force in all of it down the years, backed by the likes of wife Sandra Fox, Emer Fogarty and a great crew.

Preparations for the event take place months in advance and this year was no different.

Now they'll be planning to even better it next year!
