Darius takes the reins as new Rotary president
THE ROTARY Club of Drogheda has a new President. Darius Messayeh, a chartered engineer with Louth County Council, has taken up the chains of office from outgoing president Richard Schmidt.
Drogheda Rotary Club is part of the Rotary international family, and over the past number of years the organisation has made fantastic strides in helping the most vulnerable on this planet through the polio-eradication campaign, the shelter-box disaster relief initiative and focus on hunger, thirst and medication across the globe. But even with these global concerns, the club has not forgotten our local needs.
The Drogheda club has been in existence for the past 68 years and during that time has assisted many local charities and has been the driving force behind Drogheda's Meals on Wheels for in excess of 40 years, and the annual memorial tree.
The club currently has 33 members who are men and women representing a cross-section of business, community and professional backgrounds with a common goal of providing service to those less able. As volunteers of all ages, they work to meet community and international concerns.
Drogheda Rotary meets weekly at 1pm at the Westcourt Hotel. If you feel you could help or are interested in joining a club of circa 1.2 million International members over 168 countries or just want to come along and see what they do, you can contact Drogheda Rotary on rotarydrogheda @gmail.com or speak to Eddie on 086 812 4055.
