Council fight

IT certainly wouldn't happen these days in the hallowed chambers of the Governor's House?

I got my hands on a report of a council meeting from 1942 - 70th anniversary! - when two of the councillors came to blows.

A Councillor JB Callan was about to leave when Ald Byrne questioned him. Further comments developed and the two went toe-to-toe, blows were exchanged and they grabbed each other and fell over a table.

The Mayor, Ald Walsh TD, Mr Quinn, a Town Tenants candidate and other members of the public dived in to seperate the feuding pair. Ald Byrne sat down and Cllr Callan left.
