JANUARY IS the biggest time of the year for dieting, right after the Christmas holidays, when many people have overindulged on food and alcohol.

Only the lucky few escape the festive season untroubled by an increased waistline and most people have the D-word at the back of their mind as they enter the New Year.

Well-known local girl Lorna McKenna found herself in the category of needing to lose weight that crept up over a few years, and her bosses in Maher's Chemist made a deal with her; show us a diet plan works, and we'll stock it!

'I've worked in Maher's Chemist in West Street for 17 years, and they have never stocked diet or weight loss plans, but they are very popular,' says Lorna.

'So I said I would try a new plan, The Nupo Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD), as my weight had slowly increased over the years and I was wearing a size 16, which I wasn't happy about.'

Michael and Jenny Maher said if after she gave it a go and it worked, they would also give it a go in the chemist.

'Well they had to eat their words, as I dropped from a size 16 to a 10, losing 2 stone 8lb to date using Nupo,' she says with a big smile.

'In the first three weeks, I lost the most weight, well over a stone, and then steadily and healthily, around 2 to 3 lbs a week. Now I am also doing workouts with Ann Neilis in Aura, so have come off the plan and am just eating better food.'

The Nupo Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD) is designed for rapid weight loss and is perfect for people who want to see instant results.

The plan consists of six Nupo meal replacements shakes or soups per day, which come in a variety of flavours.

After three weeks on the VLCD diet, it is recommend that you speak to you doctor before continuing on the diet.

'People have been commenting on the results and coming for advice on starting it themselves,' says Lorna.

'I've tried things like this before, but the drinks are absolutely delicious, and not hard to take, so I can't recommend them enough.'
