Brian Farrelly lost four stone in a year – and kept it off – with the support of his local Slimming World group which meets at St. Mary’s GFC.

Brian Farrelly (35), a postman from Ardee, has an added spring in his step this new year, thanks to the help of his local Slimming World group.

Brian has lost an amazing four stone in a year and has being maintaining the loss for the last six months. He joined his local group after looking at pictures which were tagged of him on Facebook and he just couldn't believe it was him. Brian struggled all his life with his weight even as a child and it was something that he knew he wanted to change now that he has his own family to look after.

He took his first steps in the door of his local group – which meets every Tuesday at St Mary's GFC – in June 2012 after a leaflet fell on his doormat and he heard so many positive stories about the plan.

'Ireland's 'Woman of the Year' Kim Callaghan only lives a few doors up and she was inspiring me each day as I witnessed her "fading" away,' he said.

On his first week Brian lost nine pounds and four the week after and never looked back. He loves to cook so that end of things wasn't going to be a problem. He enjoys all foods with Slimming World and nothing is banned and enjoys, curries, steak and chips and buckets of pasta and friut and vegetables on a daily basis.

'It's not what you eat it's the way you cook it, it's not a diet just a life-style change,' he added.

Brian loves all the support that he gets from his fellow members and his consultant Lynne Woods each week in group .

His consultant Lynne said that he is truly inspirational and a great help to struggling members, his vast knowledge of the plan and all his recipes keep other members motivated as well each week and he makes an amazing Slimming World cheesecake which he regularly treats the 5.30pm group to on a taster night.
