Youth theatre duo jet off to conference in Austria
Members of Droichead Youth Theatre enjoyed a stellar trip last week, after being selected to represent Irish youth theatre at a special youth volunteer conference in Austria.
Artistic Director Christina Matthews and member Cathal Thornton jetted off to Vienna for five days, for a European Volunteer Service event hosted by Biondek Buhne, as part of the youth in action programme.
This included seminars, workshops and performances from youth theatres around Europe, including Finland, Romania, Malta and Latvia. Droichead Youth Theatre was selected out of more than 60 youth theatres in Ireland to represent NAYD (National Association for Youth Drama) at this event and said it was a brilliant experience.
'It was a great week,' said Cathal, who is also Droichead Youth Theatre's junior facilitator. 'I made many new friends and connections and also learned a thing or two!'
The theatre company recently received funding from The Arts Council and Leargas to devise a production based on local and European folklore and fairytales, which is due to premiere at Easter. The show will take place in Droichead Arts Centre from Wednesday to Saturday, April 23 to 26, at 7 p.m. More details to follow.
