Stiff Little Fingers

MUSIC fans will remember a great band - and they are still touring - called Stiff Little Fingers.
They had a few hits and one their best songs was 'The Roaring Boys'.
The first line states 'Paddy is waiting in Drogheda town' or thereabouts.
I wonder how did Drogheda get to be the inspiration for that one!
MELL HOLE FILLED
IT'S GREAT to see the pothole on the Cement Road, not far from the Mell junction and opposite Aldi, has been filled in. It was a nightmare.
IF you are ever walking past the entrance to Ashfield at Mell listen out for the angry lamp post! There is an incredible buzzing coming from it and I just hope it doesn't explode.
THE BOYNE COTTAGE
I WONDER has there been any takers yet? If you pass the window of O'Brien Collins on John Street you'll see Boyne Cottage on the market for €150,000.
It's down off the Chord Road and although in need of repair, it has huge potential.
NARROW WEST STREET
AND I won't go too far from that same window in relation to the next point. I spotted the former Price Busters on Narrow West Street details.
It's €3,000 rent per month and €1,834 in rates for a month. So that's nearly €5,000 a month to start, before a business will get any return.
I still think the council should invest in it and open an indoor market and get the footfall back on this part of town.
WHAT will ever become of the former Bridgeford site? I know there was talk about a nursing home at one stage, but it's all locked up and nothing seems to be happening. Any suggestions from the locals?
TOP CLASS BRU BLT
I HAVE to start another debate. Where is the best BLT sandwich served? I have the first contender, Bru on the waterside. First class.
GOGAN'S DARTS TEAM
I SPOTTED a great picture in one of our papers from the 1970s of the Gogans darts team and some of those legends were Duleek's finest, Paddy Coleman, Patsy D'Alton, Christy Coleman, Michael O'Connor, Pa O'Brien, Paddy Walsh, John Argue and Dermot O'Brien.
THERE'S an electronic sign on the left hand side of the road as you approach Donegan's at Monasterboice but it never seems to be working. What does it do?
WHILE in Mell church some time ago I noticed the great work done on the paintwork (Another mention for Aidan Lambe!) but just above the altar is a great image of the stained glass window at the rear of the church. It was done by the highly talented Seamus Vaughan. A very nice job.
