THE TALENTED lot of the JYO (Julianstown Youth Orchestra) are back rehearsing every Saturday in Colaiste na hInse under the baton of Fergus Sheil.
And this season, the orchestra exceeds 100 members which are divided into two orchestras - Junior and Senior. Members range in age from 7 to 17 playing in string, woodwind, brass and percussion sections.
Recently the orchestra managed to secure a grant of €8,000 from Meath Partnership to be used to purchase instruments.
This offers students a fantastic opportunity to learn a new instrument without having to pay the, often very substantial, cost of purchasing it.
There are still a few instruments available in the instrument lending scheme so any potential musicians should contact the orchestra manager on firstname.lastname@example.org. More information can be found on www.jyo.ie.
Forthcoming engagements for the orchestra include a short pre-concert performance in Navan on December 7th where the JYO will perform prior to a concert given by the RTE Symphone Orchestra with guest voilinist Tasmin Little.
The pre-concert performance takes place in the Navan Community Centre at 7pm and admission is free.
