Heritage Week set to start

National Heritage Week takes place towards the end of August, but already a number of key events have been planned for the area.
The members of Ardee Archery Club demonstrate their skill and invite you to 'Have a Go' at an outing in Old Mellifont Abbey on August 24 from 10am to 4.30pm. It is free, like most of the events.
An exhibition on the role played by Ardee locals in World War I is taking place at the library on August 23 from 10am to 5pm. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Telephone: 041-6859023.
Local historian and author Noel Sharkey will conduct a guided tour and talk of St. Paul's Graveyard in Haynestown on August 28 from 7-8pm. Blackrock Tidy Towns has organised the free event. Email: email@example.com. Telephone: 087-2642064. No booking required.
A conducted garden tour of Thomas Wright's 18th-Century garden and four- acre walled garden and woodland walk at Barmeath Castle is on August 24 and 21 from 2-5pm. Cost Adult: €5, Child: €3. Organiser: Bryan Bellew. Telephone: 041-6851205. No bookings needed.
MOSSTOWN cemetery is one of those traditional graveyards in the heart of mid-Louth.
It has burials from centuries ago, but as you enter, it has an obelisk of sorts, dedicated to the Sorans of Lawlesstown Hill, Dunleer. Any of them still around?
CONGRATS to Lisa Madden Neary and Olive Rooney who passed their CFR course in Kells with the Ardee Order of Malta.
I HOPE Square United have a good season this year. They beat Termonfeckin in a recent friendly and looking the part was goalscorer Eimanpas. Hope he bags a few more.
LOCAL songstress Mary Duff plays her only solo Irish concert this summer, with special guests Ray Murtagh and Jim Finnegan, on August 30. Special offer at the Ardboyne Hotel, Navan, Co. Meath - Dinner and show only €40 per person. Contact the Ardboyne Hotel for bookings at 046-9023119
ST GERARD'S ARCH
St. Gerard's A.R.C.H Club Ardee and District would like to thank all who contributed to the collections at Masses in Ardee, Ballapousta, Tallanstown and Reaghstown. Also thanks to loyal collectors at these Masses. A total of €1,400 was collected and this money will go towards helping people in the area who suffer with learning disabilities
PEOPLE would steal anything. I see where a trailer, advertising the recent Moynalty Steam Threshing Fair, was placed in a field at Woodtown, but was simply driven away by someone.
BLESSING OF THE GRAVES
Blessing of the Graves takes place on August 24 (7pm) in Smarmore, September 7 (11am) in Collon and (6pm) Old St Mary's.
