GARDAI have poured cold water on feverish speculation that convicted rapist Larry Murphy may be staying in North Cork.
Over recent weeks rumours have been circulating on social media sites that the 47-yearold, dubbed ' The Beast of Baltinglass' had been living in the region.
The rumours suggested that Murphy had been seen in a number of villages including Kilworth, Rathcormac, Castlelyons and Killavullen.
This week comments on Facebook suggested that the fatherof-three had also been spotted in Mallow. In fact, speculation has been rife around Mallow all week.
Murphy was released from Arbour Hill Prison on August 2012, having served 10 years of a 14-year jail term imposed after he was convicted of the rape and attempted murder of a Carlow businesswoman in 2000.
He is not tagged or the subject of a supervision order as he was jailed prior to the introduction of the 2001 Sex Offenders Act.
This has led to speculation about his whereabouts, with reports of him being sighted in Ireland on numerous occasions since his release.
A garda source said he was aware of the rumours that had been circulating around North Cork and on social media sites, adding that as far he and his colleagues were concerned they were untrue.
