MILLSTREET GAA hosted its annual Dinner Dance at a pleasant function hosted in the Dromhall Hotel, Killarney, last Saturday night. Teams received medals for hurling and football triumphs in a rewarding season in club affairs.
Chairman Fr. Paddy O'Byrne commended all involved within the club. Thanks were extended to Michael Healy and Michael Cleary for co-ordinating the function.
2012 emerged a successful season for Millstreet, retaining the Duhallow U21 Football Championship title while in hurling, Millstreet collected a county minor b Hurling Championship title and also earned hold of the Singleton Cup in junior hurling. And Millstreet rounded off their outdoor involvment with an outright win in the North Cork Minor D Football Championship.
Young Player of the Year belonged to Brian G Murphy. From a list of potential candidates, Brian added to his reputation with commanding performances all season.
His eyecatching displays made him an imposing figure on a Millstreet team that retained the Duhallow U21 Football Championship title in 2012.
After enduring the sternest of tests from a number of challenging sides, crucially our recipient helped blend intensity and offer a highly impressive workrate that carved out excellent scores.
A player with a bright future, the 2012 Young Player of the Year, Brian G won applause on a deserving recipient of the Tadhg Moynihan Memorial Trophy, presented by Thomas Moynihan.
Elsewhere, Patrick Randles collected the Player of the Year Award. Patrick formed a commanding presence in defence that helped Millsreet enjoy a productive run that reached the Duhallow Junior A Football Championship Final for the first time since 2003.
Likewise in hurling, Patrick delivered ever competent displays that allowed Millstreet capture welcome silverware on regaining the Singleton Cup.
Patrick accepted the prestigious honour of club player of the year sponsored by Coleman's, presented by Patrick Coleman.
Emerging a popular winner of clubman of the year was Michael O'Sullivan for his efforts on working behind the scenes. Michael acepted the award from club President William O'Leary and Chairman Fr. Paddy O'Byrne.
North Cork and Co. Minor championship medals were presented by team mentors Joe O'Connor and Conor O'Callaghan. Performing the honours for the u21 football side were Denis Hickey and Fr. Paddy O'Byrne with Don Twomey, Gerry O'Brien, Connie Hickey, Stephen Collins and Brian Sheahan thanked for their contribution to junior A hurling.
