Clondrohid 3-18 St. Marks 2-9 CLONDROHID created history on delivering a highly impressive performance to overcome St. Marks in the County U16 'C' Hurling Championship in Kanturk on Sunday last.
On doing so, Clondrohid collected a first time triumph in the grade much to the delight of those involved in the promotion of hurling. As the game developed and availing of the breeze, Clondrohid hurled with a determination and fluency that knocked St. Mark's off their stride.
Little separated the pair in the opening half, St. Marks availing of the solid work of Seán Deely and Shane Brosnan to shade matters. Upfront, Marks possessed strikers supreme in James Forrest and Padraig Curtin to net goals and well taken points.
Clondrohid refused to be knocked off course, Darren Dineen ever so accurate from frees in addition to netting a goal that kept the Muskerry boys well in contention to trail 2-8 to 1-8 at the break. Though
Curtin added a St. Mark's point upon the resumption, Clondrohid increased the intensity levels.
Defenders Niall O'Shea and Brian Corcoran put together stellar performances as did outstanding goalkeeper and team captain David Lynch.
A Dineen point nudged Clondrohid ahead before Shane Murphy pounced for a goal. The momentum remained with Clondrohid and their hopes were greatly enhanced from a green flag raised by Michael Dineen.
Though St Marks pressed, they failed to convert possession into scores with Clondrohid thankful to Lynch between the posts. With the clock counting down, Clondrohid finished in the style of champions, the Dineens, Darren and Michael adding points.
