In the meantime the club's junior team travelled to face their close rivals Midleton at Knockgriffin in a vital Munster junior premier league game, thankfully it was the Fermoy side which came out on top by a 1-2 scoreline, this win will keep the team firmly in the hunt for premier honours.

BUSY YEAR AHEAD FOR CYCLING CLUB

One of the oldest and certainly one of the most successful clubs in the Town is the Fermoy Cycling club which held its Agm recently and are planning another very busy season ahead.

The club's annual league gets under way after Easter, this caters for all grades of cyclists and as the club is always ready to welcome new members to the fold, this is usually considered an ideal way to introduce new and especially younger members to the sport.

Amongst its promotions for the coming year will be the Silver Pail Grand Prix races on Sunday April 25, an event which will attract competitors from all over the country, the Cork Co Road race c/ships in June, the Dan O'Donovan Memorial races in July and the Fermoy Credit Union tour of the Knockmealdowns in September.

Officers elected – Chairman Ciaran O'Connor, Vice-Chairman John Murphy, Hon Sec Michael O'Connor, Treasurer Jim Hennessy Junr, Child Protection Officer Christy Healy, and Chief Steward Bill Chambers. Pre-season training continues with training spins on Saturdays and Sundays from the Town Park Gates at 10am, also indoor turbo-training at the Fermoy Community Centre on Tuesdays at 7pm in conjunction with the Blackwater Triathlon Club.

LADIES FOOTBALL CLUB PRESENT THE MEDALS

One of the best things from a sporting viewpoint, to hit the Fermoy area in recent years was the formation of the ladies football club in the area, I just cannot be sure who really began to sow the seeds for the club but I seem to remember that Marie Barry and the man who is the coach at Loreto Ger Murphy were involved, those people and whoever else were responsible at the time, must have been very proud indeed when the Club celebrated another very successful year in the short life of the club at their social in the Grand Hotel.

Present Club Chairperson Cllr Collette Dolan Moore; spoke in glowing terms of all who give of their time in training and running the club during the year which was an extremely busy one indeed. She explained that they were there to celebrate the victories of the club's U14/U16/minor and junior Ladies in 2012, she welcomed the officer of the Co Board Jerome Casey, who would present the medals to winners,

Arthur Coughlan, hero of many battles on the hurling and football field, proved himself a most capable MC for the night, one of his functions was to introduce the club person of the year award and he did so in his own inimitable style when introducing the winner Mr Paul O'Sullivan who, in a few short years in the club did enormous amount of work which helped in no small way to the successes of their under age victories. The choice of Paul received tremendous applause and agreement all round.
