CORINTHIANS CUP QUARTER-FINAL
Park Utd B 3 Rathcoole 0
ON Saturday last Park Utd played host to Rathcoole in the Corinthians Cup quarter-final in Brigown Park thanks, in large part, to an outstanding performance from Dinny O'Dea.
The match had an open start with both teams having chances in the first 10 minutes, but Park's O'Dea was the only player that could capitalise on the early chances.
Kevin Roynane played O'Dea through on the right wing and when O'Dea saw Brian Cooper off his line he took his chance and curled it over the keeper and into the far corner of the goal.
Then 20 minutes into the first half Park doubled their lead and O'Dea got his second of the day. A Mario Murphy free kick couldn't be held by Rathcoole keeper Brian Cooper and O'Dea was the first to react to the breaking ball and Park were now up 2-0.
Park did have their own chances to get back into the game before halftime but a solid Park defence kept the away side at bay.
The second half started much like the first, a very open contest. With 15 minutes to go Park sealed the victory. A sweeping move involving substitute Simon Maher and Simon Bane finished up with Bane letting off an unstoppable strike from inside the Rathcoole area.
At the final whistle, Park were jubilant and can now look forward to another semi-final and will be wishing for a date at the
