Mallow see off Ballincollig in MSL clash

MUNSTER SENIOR LEAGUE: SECOND DIVISION - Ballincollig 1 Mallow United 3

THIS was Mallow's sixth win in eight starts in the Munster Senior League Second Division, and they are now second in the table behind Wilton.

The first half was amongst the best Mallow played this season and the game finished as a contest when they got their third just before halftime.

Winger Niall Bucke set up the first goal in the opening minutes when he ran to the endline and pulled a pass back for Shane Sheehan to rifle home from 16 yards.

Niall Bucke then scored the second himself when he volleyed into the top corner of the Ballincollig net on a chested pass from Eoin Carroll. That good quality, twogoal blitz came in the opening 15 minutes and put Mallow in pole position.

Ballincollig did well to recover, however, and they were back in the contest when they scored after half an hour. With the sides then sharing an equal amount of possession, striker Eoin Carroll scored cleverly from inside the box shortly before halftime. The game fizzled out as the second half wore on, resulting in an important away win for Mallow.

The North Cork side are on the road again this Saturday when they travel to Murphy's Farm to take on Glasheen.

The game is Mallow's ninth of the season and the exact half-way point in their league campaign.
