Major set back for Ballincollig at Strand

A MAJOR setback for Ballincollig's league ambitions as near neighbours Strand advanced their ambitions in a tough, tight game. Ballincollig were miles away from the team that had dispatched Richmond the previous weekend, while the home side were well up for this game and played to their strengths.

Ballincollig couldn't get anything right on the day. The defence failed to clear their lines the easy way on numerous occasions and it was to cost them when an uncharacteristic mistake was punished with a fine shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner that left James Murphy with no chance.

The second half saw the visitors enjoying sustained periods of pressure, but no goal was forthcoming as Strand held on for what are now vital points
