Ballincollig 0 Lakewood 4 THIS week's fixture was the local derby game away to Ballincollig in the U-14 Premier division. With every game now being vital in our efforts to win the league Ballincollig were up for the battle.
The game began at a swift pace and we got a great start when some neat passing found Tim Murphy in the box with his back to goal and his sharp turn and shot found the net to open the scoring after eight minutes. The game ebbed and flowed as both teams kept possession and a spell of sustained Lakewood pressure yielded a second goal when Brian Cooney and Dave Mulligan exchanged passes to set Tim free and his close in effort added to the lead to make it 2-0 with ten minutes remaining in the half.
With Shane Daly–Butz unsettling the home defence, one of his mazy runs almost added to the lead when he got free outside the box to send a thunderous drive off the bar and away to safety to take us to the interval.
The importance of adding to our lead was vital and the second half began with the same intensity as the first had finished.
Lakewood were now dominant and the third goal was again well worked as Shanes superb footwork allowed him to drift passed the defender to slot home to make it 3-0 with twenty minutes to go. Ballincollig were allowed an opportunity back into the game when awarded a penalty but Ger McSweeney dived superbly to his right to save.
Shane was now pulling the strings in this one as he jinked into the box forcing the defender into a rash challenge and the referee pointed to the spot. Tim Murphy stepped up to slot it home for his well deserved hat-trick in a superb personal showing. The game finished at 4-0 where the quality of the football was most pleasing in a polished team performance.
