DIVISION One outfit Lakewood Athletic overcame determined Division Two side Glounthane United in the Cork Schoolboys League U13 Cup final at Turners Cross on Sunday.

In a tightly contested affair, Lakewood eventually showed nerves of steel to win courtesy of a penalty shootout after extra time failed to seperate the teams.

After a tense 90 minutes with both sides struggling to make any clear cut chances, extra time was needed. Again this was a tense affair with Lakewood mustering the only real chance when Scott Vaughan made Mylod in the Glounthane goal produce a superb save. Glounthane somehow managed to absorb tthe pressure and the sides finished level at the end of extra time. Penalties were therefore needed to decide the winner and Vaughan got Lakewood off to the perfect start, rifling to the back of the net . Glounthane hit the post with their opening effort before Alex O'Brien made it 2-0. Chris O'Keeffe got one back for Glounthane before both sides each missed another. Despite Brian Barry scoring for Glounthane, two more goals from Mcnamara and Ryan sealed the win for Lakewood.
