In Betweeners nick garda soccer title

Nine teams, five from Charleville and one each from Dromina, Newtown, Ballyhea, along with a team consisting of members of the local Brazilian community, participated in the annual Garda Community Soccer Tournament, which was played on last Saturday at Charleville Town Park.

Nine teams, five from Charleville and one each from Dromina, Newtown, Ballyhea, along with a team consisting of members of the local Brazilian community, participated in the annual Garda Community Soccer Tournament, which was played on last Saturday at Charleville Town Park.

The perpetual cup, which was sponsored by Charleville Suicide Aware group, was eventually won by the In Betweeners team, captained by Mikey O'Driscoll, who was also judged to be Player of the Tournament. They defeated the team representing the Four Winds in the final, which was watched by a large crowd that was greatly entertained by the games played throughout the morning and afternoon.

The Lee's Centra team defeated the Red Bog Dromina team to take the Shield after another very entertaining game.

The tournament was organised by community Garda Nick Phelan who got great assistance from local people in running the event and he particularly thanked Mike Kavanagh, Brian Fitzgerald and Con Bowles who had refereed the various games through out the morning and afternoon.

Garda Phelan said that the €500 raised by the tournament raised would go to the local Ballyhoura Rural Services group.
