Fermoy 2 Ballincollig A 5

BALLINCOLLING 'A' travelled to Fermoy to play the First Division side in the local cup Sunday morning. Ballincollig started well and attacked from the off and could have punished Fermoy early in the game but failed to do so. A long ball into the Ballincolling half saw Fermoy score from a excellent volley to go one up within five minutes.

Fermoy were denied a second goal by a brilliant one handed save by Stephen Murphy to touch the ball onto the crossbar and was cleared off the lineby Ian O'Sullivan.

Ballincollig now took hold of the game and pushed on and got the reward just before half time with a good header from Alan Stewart and the half finished one apiece.

A switch in formation to 4-4-2 seemed to work in the visitors' favour. Conor Egan had more room to play wide down the right and a run by him down the wing saw him pinpoint Shane Stewart, who struck home to make it 21 to Ballincollig.

Ballincollig added a third from a free kick that Alan Stewart despatched from a tight angle 22 yards out into the top right-hand corner.

The two goal cushion wasn't long lived however, and a slip of concentration saw the first division side punish the visitors to get back into the game.

However, Shane Stewart added a fourth before his brother, Alan, beat the keeper and walked the ball into the net for his hatrick and it finished 5-2 to Ballincollig.
