MSL Senior Premier Division
Fermoy v St Marys
Wednesday, May 29
Carrig Park, 7pm
Fermoy need to win this game in order to stay in the Munster Senior League Premier Division. They go into the contest in the relegation zone, one point above Mayfield at the bottom of the table.
St Marys have the same points tally as Fermoy but their greater number of goals scored put them above their hosts in the table. In short, only a win will keep Fermoy in the league and at the expense of their visitors.
Fermoy go into the clash on the back of an important draw away to Midleton. The homeside dominated the first half but lost confidence when Mick Devine, Fermoy's keeper, saved a penalty shortly before the break. Overall, neither side had many clear cut chances.
Both of Fermoy's strikers, both named Gavin Quirke, made the best of tight opportunities to get shots on goal but their shots went over or were saved.
This is Fermoy's first season in the Senior Premier Division following their promotion as runners up from the Senior First Division this time last season. They have notched up four wins and three draws in 17 contests. Their objective at the start of the season was to play good football, compete against the top teams and to secure a second consecutive season in the highest league.
Survival goes down to the last game of the season next Wednesday. They have secured other good wins and performances this season so one last win is not beyond them.
