MACROOM FC recently held their annual race night fund-raiser, which was a great success.
This was also an opportunity to present their awards from last season. Local Macroom shop owner Con O'callaghan was inaugurated into their Hall of Fame. O'Callaghan was part of the few who was involved in the founding of the club, and was also a excellent player for many years.
Club treasurer Janet Shine was named Club person of the year, for her many years of excellent service to the club as Treasurer. The player awards were also handed out for 2010/11, with Darragh Deasy winning player of the year for Macroom A. Darragh has been a loyal first team player for over 15 years, and is 'Mr. Reliable' of their back line, with a sweet left foot.
Darragh Crowley won the player of the year for Macroom B. Darragh has progressed excellently through the club, winning the player of the year for the U17 two years ago, so class being permanent there. He is currently playing with the A side, such is his progression. The top scorer's awards went to Keith Holden for Macroom A, with an incredible golden boot equalling 32 goals for the season.
John Ronan won the top goal scorer for the B side, with 12 goals from centre back. A great achievement, with Pat Kelleher assisting on many of them, leading for them to be dubbed ' The Dynamic Duo'.
The U17 awards went to Darren Kelly for top goal scorer, and Liam Lynch for player of the year. Both players have bright futures, having both advanced to play key roles for the B side this season. Darren hit 21 for the U17s, with some crackers during an excellent season.
Liam was superb at left back, ever present and is now tearing up AUL 2 defences. Well done to all winners, and to those who attended on the night.
