HAVING already won the league Lakewood put in another great performance to round off the season. Playing with a strong wind in the first half they soon got into their passing football and the chances soon came.
Kevin Crowley set up Dave Murphy but his shot went over Shane O Connor then put Kevin Casey through but his shot was blocked. Against the run of play the home side took the lead with a 30 yard free kick but this spurred Lakewood on and with Jason Hurley and Andrew Cahill taking control in the middle they started creating chances again.
The equaliser came after Andrew broke up a Carrigaline attack he found Jason when his shot was blocked down Shane had a shot which the keeper parried Dave was first to react and his cross was met by Kevin Crowley who finished to the roof of the net. Gavin Foley then went on a great run but his cross just failed to pick anyone out.
Lakewood's second goal was a real cracker the ball fell to Martin Hutchinson and from 35 yards he unleashed a thunderbolt which found the top left hand corner of the net.
With the wind at their backs Carrigaline put some pressure on early in the second half but Donnacha Kelly and Kevin Murphy got in some great tackles and the ever reliable Daire Conway in goals ensured there were no further goals at the other end our two new wingers James Kelly and Luke Mulligan kept the home defence busy with some great runs.
Lakewood had some further chances in the second half Andrew went close with a header from a corner Dave had two further chances after being set up by Eric Manning who had a chance of his own after a great run. Stephen Kiely was unlucky with two free kicks and Jason saw a shot just go wide.
Our final chance came from a free kick by Martin which was some how stopped on the line by a Lakewood player. Carrigaline had two chances before the end but sub keeper Sean Lovett pulled off a couple of brave saves to preserve his clean sheet record. Bob Grantham was on hand to present the trophy to Captain Jason Hurley and it was back to Lakewood to continue the celebrations.
This is a great achievement for this committed bunch of lads as it is their second league win in as many years.
