BRENDAN Rodgers has our wholehearted backing as the new manager of Liverpool Football Club. Rodgers was precisely the right man for the job, the only other two people we might have considered for the role - Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp - were never going to come, so his appointment was the best case senario.
It is, nevertheless, slightly worrying to hear Rodgers talk this week about the possibility of loaning Andy Carroll out to AC Milan for the season. It's important to remember that he was asked a question and that he answered intelligently (in not ruling anything in or out) and was generally complimentary of Carroll.
Rodgers might have been better poo pooing the story and giving Carroll his full backing. The former Newcastle man is only now coming into some sort of form, having persisted with him for this long he deserves to be given another six months or a year to prove himself. To prove that he can fit into the new system and justify his £35m valuation.
