Buttevant always in control in U-21 B quarter-final

BUTTEVANT will meet Castle Rovers in this weekends Under 21 'B' FC semi-final following their victory over Blackwater Rovers in a one sided encounter at Mallow on Friday night.

From the throw in the winners totally dominated gaining supremacy in key sectors of the field that ensured their forwards were in constant supply all through.

They were three points to the good courtesy of Sean Madigan (2) and William Fitzgibbon before they struck for the games opening goal in the 11th minute when Adrian Noonan was first to react to finish to the net after Darragh O'KEeffe's initial effort at goal was saved by the Rovers keeper David Power.

It was all the winners at this stage with Kieran O'connell setting up Darragh O'keeffe for a good point under pressure before the impressive O'connell got in on the scoring act with two sublime points by the end of the first quarter to move into a 1-5 to no score lead.

On top at midfield where the hardworking duo of Brendan Jones and Sean Madigan got through an enormous amount of work and in the 25th minute a great solo run by Jones set up Darragh O'keeffe for their second goal. Blackwater Rovers who were short the services of a number of key players improved greatly before the break.

Liam Cronin opened their account with a pointed free and on the stroke of half time Jamie Collins set up Eoin Sheehan for a well taken point and the trailed at the shortwhistle 2-7 to 0-2.

On the changeover Blackwater Rovers were expected to mount a good second half fightback but it never transpired with the defending champions Buttevant continuing the set the tone. Sean Madigan got proceedings underway with two point in quick succession before Darragh O'keeffe had their third goal in the 35th minute to go 3-9 to 0-2 ahead.

Blackwater Rovers tried hard in this period but at times found it hard to break down a well organised Buttevant backline. At the other end the winners reeled off points by Kieran O'connell, Sean Madigan, Michael Ryan and Darragh O'keeffe before Adrian Noonan completed the scoring with his sides fourth goal as the final whistle approached.
