ONCE again Fermoy travelled to Carrigaline where they got the better of the home side in the 1st round of the FAI Intermediate Cup on a scoreline of 1-2. this is another good start for the club in this National Competition and hopefully they can go as far as entry to the senior Cup will permit.
The junior team lost out to Everton in Munster Junior Cup on a 5-2 scoreline but they have already impressed in their section of the Munster Junior premier League. GAA The big local news this weekend is that Kilworth's intermediate hurlers have qualified for the Co final against Kanturk which will be played in Pairc Ui Rinn on Sunday week October 14th.
They achieved this when they overcame the challenge posed by Argideen Rangers from Timoleague at Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday last. Congrats to them and the best of luck in the final.
Meanwhile at local level here in Fermoy, the Intermediate hurlers will be burning the midnight oil this week in earnest as they attempt to fulfil all their remaining league matches before next Sunday Oct 7 th deadline for league ties.
On last night Wednesday they were due to have played Blackrock in Fermoy under light, on Saturday they are due to meet Dromina away and on Sunday they are down to meet Kanturk also in Fermoy. They also have an outstanding game v Mallow to sort out. It is difficult to see all those games being played before deadline day but followers should keep in touch with club or team officials,
Congrats to Fermoy Ladies minor football team on scoring a big victory over Clonakilty on Sunday last to qualify for the semi-final of the Co C/ship/
BEST WISHES TO YOUNG KURT
Best wishes are on board to young Kurt Bowes, a local all round sports person, who will be representing his town at the World handball c/ships this month ( Oct 10/19th).
Sixteen year old Kurt, is also an excellent boxer with many National, provincial and International trophies to show for it.
He was also an excellent young hurler and footballer before he decided to concentrate on handball and boxing. His boxing coach is his dad John Bowes, while he could not have a better Handball coach than Colm Jordan a man who has been through it all from juvenile to the top and is a most dedicated person. Kurt is a very lucky lad indeed.
