OVER 250 golfers competed in the Mallow Print Works Open Singles Stableford competition in Mallow Golf Club last Saturday and Sunday with the major honours going the way of John Foley.
Playing off 12, Foley, who played on Sunday, took the spoils thanks mainly to an impressive back nine score which gave him victory by two points over the rest of the field.
Foley has been one of the most consistent performers over the past few months so it was no surprise to see him take the top prize in this one.
Second and third places were only separated by using the count back method with both Gavin Kelly (6) and Adrian Lyons (7) coming in with very impressive tallies of 40 points.
Not for the first time Brian Attridge (0) collected the Gross Prize, coming in just ahead of David Conway.
There was also success for Greg Barrett (10) as he claimed best Saturday with 38 points while Dermot Punch (19) took the spoils for the best Sunday.
It being a bank holiday weekend, there was a separate 3 Person Team event (Sponsored by A.B Sales Ltd) held on Monday with the team of Tom Downes, PJ O'Sullivan and Dave Cleary claiming victory with a total of 63 points.
Second place went to Sean Murphy, Pat Murphy and Kieran Mills with the team of Alan O'Keeffe, David Howell and Denis Spillane coming in third with a very credible tally of 61 points.
