West Muskerry AC had a fantastic day in Limerick Race Course last Sunday, October 27, when the club came home with nine gold Munster medals and five bronze Munster medals.

In the Boys U 12 2000m Connor O`Neill was in top form and with over 130 athletes in the race Connor and his team bunched together and fought for a great start.

Connor battled all the way to the finish line and was well deserving of the fourth place medal. His team mate Tom Downey also battled his way up through the crowd and got himself into the medal positions.

Both Connor and Tom helped Cork secure the gold medals in the Inter County competition.

Connor also captained his team to the Gold medals in the team competition. This was a great achievement for all six boys and they are now crowned Munster U 12 Champions for 2013 and have qualified for the All Ireland in Santry on November 17 next.

The Munster Champions are Connor O'Neill, Tom Downey, Eoin Moynihan, Tadgh Manning, Conor Lucey and Conor O'Leary.

In the Girls u 16 4000m Caoimhe Harrington and Stephanie Cotter ran up an age to get some race practice for their own age Munster and what a race it turned out to be. Caoimhe is returning after an injury but she kept her focus right throughout the race and was deservedly crowned U 16 Munster Champion.

Stephanie Cotter was well deserving of the seventh place medal over a tough and demanding course.

In the girls U 10 1000m Danielle Twomey, Beibhinn Moynihan Aoife Lucey, and Ciara Bradley ran extremely well.

In the boys u 10 1000m Darren Moynihan gained great experience in his race.

In the Boys U 14 3000 John Downey was the twelfth Cork person home and will have to wait for a while to see if he will be selected for the Cork team going to the All Ireland.

In the Novice Men 6000m Michael Harrington had another fine run, despite injuring his calf in the final lap.

Best of luck to our Junior athletes who will be competing in the Junior County Cross Country Championships on Sunday in Riverstick.
