Mark Howell, David Curtin and James Cotter will make up the final group in next Saturday's final round of Mallow Golf Club's Captain's Prize after the trio recorded a pair of 66s and a 67 respectively in balmy conditions at the Ballyellis venue.
Howell was first to post the impressive tally as he blitzed the course on Saturday with the duo of Curtin and Cotter joining him at the top of the leader board on Sunday. The Captain's (Joe Dowling) Prize is one of the top competitions of the year at the Par 72 Championship Parkland course and usually brings out the best in the competing members. This year over 280 players took their positions on the first tee of the stroke play event with the top 64 players (and ties) booking their place in the final round.
Howell, Curtain and Cotter were among a small band of players to shoot below 70 as less than 5% of those finishing the event recorded scores below that mark. While each of the leaders will fancy their chances of grabbing Mallow's top Major, they will surely have one eye straining behind them as all the other qualifiers are within eight shots of top spot.
The action starts at 10.37am on Saturday when the first groups head out with the leaders teeing off at 2.18pm.
