Stephanie Cotter All Ireland Champion U15, Rachael O`Shea silver medalist U19 and Ciara Hurley U14 (First All Ireland).

SIX members of West Muskerry AC were in action on Saturday and Sunday last in the All Ireland Track and Field Championships.

Stephanie Cotter competed in the Girls U15 800m and what a stormer of a race she ran. The start of the race all the girls fought for their positions which resulted in Stephanie nearly tripping but she managed to settle herself again and went chasing after the leaders.

With 100m to go she took the lead and sprinted all the way home and was well deserving of the gold medal position. Stephanie will be competing in the 1500m at the end of July and we wish her well.

Rachael O`Shea also ran well in the Girls U19 800m and again was well deserving of the silver medal.

Garry O`Sullivan competed in the Boys U17 800m final and he also had a great race. He finished very strongly and gained a few places but was out of the medals.

Ciara Hurley competed in her first ever All Ireland U14 Discus competition. She held her composure and got into the top 8 for the final but was out of the medals on this occasion. Kevin O`Dwyer competed in the U17 Long Jump competition. Kevin was not at his best on Saturday and was out of the medals on this occasion.

Eoin Walsh competed in the U18 boys 100m. After coming back from injury he was really looking forward to the competition. Everything was looking good in his preparations but disaster struck when, half way up the track, his hamstring went again and he had to pull out of the race.

Next week the club will be competing in the Munster B competition in Castleisland and we wish all those athletes well.

The club will be closing for three weeks for the summer starting from Monday 22nd July and will reopen again on Monday 12th of August.

Cathal Ryan was competing at the National Paralympics Games on Saturday last in Santry, Co. Dublin.

Cathal was in flying form and was unstoppable in his category and came home with a huge medal haul of six gold medals. He won the 60m sprint, 100m sprint, Long Jump, Javelin, Shot and Discus.

Also congrats to all his club mates from the Rebel Wheelers who all did very well on the day.

Two West Muskerry A.C. athletes were in action on Sunday, June 30 in the All Ireland Junior Track and Field Championships.

In the 400m, Grainne Moynihan ran a stormer and was well deserving of the gold Junior medal. She also ran a new Personal Best time of 54.97 and achieved the B Standard for the European Junior but will have to wait and see if her time was enough to secure her place on the team.

Grainne also competed in the 200m and again ran a fantastic race and clenched 2nd place and unfortunately was just outside the B standard for the 200m.

In the 800m, Rachael O`Shea also ran well and was well deserving of her first Junior silver medal.
