Sarsfields 2-18

Duhallow 1-17

DUHALLOW brought plenty of commitment to an intriguing Co. Premier Minor Hurling Championship quarter final yet Sarsfields possessed the power and class to survive and claim a deserved win at a sundrenched Mallow on Monday evening.

All through Duhallow competed admirably, refusing to go away after Sarsfields appeared to hold the upperhand midway through the second half. Indeed Duhallow presented Sars with a searching test of their mettle though at key stages, they lacked the overall balance of a more solid Sarsfields. Though Duhallow opened the scoring, Sars grabbed a major on towering full forward James Sweeney finding the net. Duhallow contributed immensely to the cracking fare, boosted by the play of Kevin Cremin, Garrett Lenihan, Conor Murphy and Donal Hannon.

Indeed, Duhallow owed much to the brilliance of 'keeper Colm Noonan on a series of marvellous saves. Out the field, good work by Seán Fehin and Hannon placed Evan Murphy for a neatly taken Duhallow goal before the lead changed hands and Sarsfields held a narrow 1-10 to 1-9 grip at the break. The nip and tuck action resumed, Duhallow points to Liam O'Keeffe and Hannon squaring the contest.

Sarsfields began to create inroads , prompted by the input of Eoin and Timmy Murphy along with Cian Daly,Tadhg Mc Auliffe and David Dawson. And in the inside line threatened, Sweeney netting again with Daniel O'Mahony adding points. Duhallow never relented, Hannon surperb in the shooting stakes but their attempts to salvage a goal proved in vain.
