Indeed a hotly fancied Knocknagree were put to the pin of their collar from a William Egan inspired Kilbrin that bagged two second half goals to take a shock lead entering the closing stages. Still Knocknagree's response was calm and measured to wriggle their way out of trouble and three points without reply sealed the outcome.
Knocknagree controlled possession from the first minute and had Kilbrin in a spin. The play of Paud Dineen, Tadhg Long, Danny Cooper and Denis Murphy inspired confidence for Matthew Daly, Fintan and Anthony O'Connor shoot points.
Slowly Kilbrin pulled their game together and a productive spell earned points to Eoin Sheahan and Paudie O'Callaghan. Again Knocknagree picked up the pace and though indifferent shooting came from squandered chances, points to Daly and Fintan O'Connor secured a 0-6 to 0-4 interval lead.
And Knocknagree grabbed the reins of control upon the restart, good shooting from Anthony O'Connor and the enterprising John F Daly stretched their hand by five points. Kilbrin refused to yield and received a boost on a penalty won by Donal O'Mahony for Daniel O'Sullivan to convert.
That score roused Kilbrin, growing in stature from the impetus of inter county hurler Egan, his brother Patrick, O'Callaghan and Eoin Sheahan. And the game was lighted up in the 51st minute, William Egan blasted home a neatly taken lead goal for Kilbrin to forge ahead 2-6 to 0-11.
A ruffled Knocknagree passed up a number of chances before Denis Murphy, 16 year old debutant Eoin McSweeney and Danny Cooper regained the lead from well struck points. To their credit, Kilbrin never stopped trying but Knocknagree put 15 players behind the ball in the closing stages to close off the danger routes.
