LYRE picked up where they letf off last season to begin 2014 on a winning note.
They overcame Kilbrin in the Ducon Cup at Banteer on Sunday last. The reigning JAFC winners constructed some excellent passages of attacking play to leave a leaden footed Kibrin struggling to cope during the second half.
Kilbrin had held their own for much of the opening spell, drawing encouragement from the efforts of Daniel Sheahan, Geoffrey O'Callaghan and the shooting of Stephen O'Reilly and Paudie O'Callaghan.
Still Lyre operating against the elements hit back, David and Timmie Murphy on target to secure a 0-7 to 0-5 interval advantage. Upon the restart, Lyre set their agenda once Denis Roche found the net.
Driven on by Brendan Withers, Kevin Tarrant, Martin Kearney and Murphy, Lyre turned the screw. And from a series of attacks, a sublime goal from Murphy coppenfastened Lyre's position to secure the league points on offer.
