Knocknagree hold style and guile to overcome Boherbue
Duhallow Junior B Football League semi final
KNOCKNAGREE conjured up a dominant display to better Boherbue to this Duhallow Junior B Football League semi final played in Knocknagree on Saturday evening.
For their tireless workrate and honest effort, Knocknagree emerged worthy winners on utilising the principles of ball winning, slicker movement and craftier finishing. Though Roger Casey opened the scoring for Boherbue, the visitors flattered to deceive for Knocknagree offered a more clinical edge to their game.
That stemmed from the composed play of Tony O'Mahony, Cormac Buckley and Kenneth Hickey in defence with Barra Buckley and Padraig Collins controlling midfield. Wing backs Chris O'Leary and Hickey pushed forward to point as did effective target man Anthony O'Connor for Knocknagree to steer ahead 0-10 to 0-5 at the interval.
And Knocknagree resumed in impressive fashion, John F Daly pointed before a shot from Chris White came off the woodwork for O'Connor to collect the rebound and net. Boherbue attempted to respond to the challenge through a bit of pep in the play of Billy O'Gorman, John Corkery and Michael O'Connor.
Goal chances did surface but Knocknagree defender Cormac Buckley took the ball off the line and 'keeper Patrick Doyle got down brilliantly to deny Corkery. Still Knocknagree remained in the comfort zone and closed out the game on points to Anthony O'Connor and Daly.
