TWO goals in either half paved the way for Mallow to overcome Charleville in the Division 1 FL in dreadful weather conditions at Mallow on Friday. All through the howling wind and driving rain made playing conditions near impossible.

The opening stages saw Mallow quick into the action with Billy Sheahan having a point within seconds of the throw in while Alan Hogan with a free made it 0-2 to no score by the sixth minute.
Charleville responded with a point each by Shane Butler and James Kennedy that levelled matters at 0-2 each. Charleville created their fair share of chances in this half but there was no denying the better balanced Mallow side. Cian O'Neill and Alan Hogan with rapid goals at the end of the first quarter opened up a six point game and by half time they increased their lead to 2-4 to 0-2.
For the second half Mallow introduced substitute Shane Holland to the full forward line where he made an immediate impact when scoring two points by the 35th minute. Moments later Alan Hogan was on hand to score their third goal as they moved ahead 3-6 to 0-2.
A youthful Charleville side refused to give in. Shane Dillon cut through the Mallow defence and scored great goal in the 40th minute. Mark Kavanagh followed with a point from a free and in the 50th minute they came close to scoring a second goal when Maurice O'Brien's shot at goal went inches over the bar for a point.
However there was no denying Mallow victory with Liam Attridge scoring their fourth goal as the final whistle approached.
