First blood in league for footballers
Last Sunday afternoon we traveled the short distance to Grange to play the locals in our opening game in this years football league.
We took a bit of time to get going and Grange were first to get on the score sheet in the 5th minute when they pointed from play.
We got our first score in the 10th minute when good play by Alan sheedy and Brian o'Reilly led to Eamon fitz pointing from play. This seemed to spur us on a bit and we had a good spell from here till half time. Our next score came in the 15th minute when Eoin O'Regan won possession in the back line and gave a great ball to Hallie Burke who went on a good run beating two defenders before nestling the ball in the top corner of the goal.
We led 1-4 to 0-2 and we started the second half where we left off with some good attacks. Credit to Grange they never gave up and scored five unanswered points. We made some changes and the fresh legs made a difference with both players winning good possession.
Hallie Burke had our last point of the game when he surged up field and popped one over from the 21 yard line to put us three points up with two minutes to go and all we had to do now was hold out. However, we had the last say when some good passing between Jamie and Colman led to Eoin McHugh putting a great ball across the square where Kenneth Barry was on hand to knock the ball into the net from close range. .
Next up are Charleville away next Sunday and last years county junior b champions are sure to offer a stern test.
